Okay, you caught me, this is actually in Berkeley, at Sacramento/Dwight. Berkeley banned billboards some 25 years ago, but someone forgot to tell the billboard companies. So here is all the absurdity in one picture. You've got an anti-tobacco billboard that looks just like a Newport ad on the rooftop. It's an African American mother and son smiling and smoking! Newport could never get away with this, but the state can. Does anyone seriously think the words register with people driving by? And its supposed to counteract the street level Winston copping an attitude? By the way, I was accosted here by a drunk, who wanted money for smokes and got pissed off when I told him that I didn't want to susidize that and gave him some fruit. (2/7/98) |
