When I was quitting smoking in 1996, I found this billboard very tempting. I mean it's a freshly-lit cigarette hanging in the sky! The punchline? This is an anti-tobacco billboard! The state puts these up with tobacco tax money from Prop 99. It's more tobacco money going to billboard companies. And of course the advertisers who put these together know that the picture always wins over the words. So all those cute ironic anti-smoking billboard that look like smoking billboards are just fine by the tobacco industry. Smokers are the ones getting most abused here. |
